NASH TIMBERS JANUARY NEWSLETTER
Nash Timbers welcomes all back for 2009.
The Xmas break has refreshed our batteries so lets start 2009 with an inspiring quote from President Obama, which “’America’” could be easily substituted with “Australia”.
“This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.”
Nash Timbers continue with The Nash Timber Presentation which has been certified by NSW Architectural Board for CPE Activity Formal Points & Builders CPD Event, at our home office monthly.

1) YOUR QUESTION
2) PROBLEMS THAT ARISE
Send your question and test our knowledge!!!!!
YOUR QUESTION?
Can you secret nail a floor board over 80mm x 19mm?
No, as it is not recommended by The Australian Building Code.
OOPS!
Who would be silly enough to leave their plastic wrapped flooring and decking in the direct sunlight with a tarp over it!
As this builder may find on opening the plastic wrap the floorboard has been cooked which can cause cupping?
All the smart builders unpack their timber and put it under cover.
REDUCTIONS IN LOG LENGTHS AND DIAMETERS
The reduction in the height and diameter of harvested trees, delivered logs and in turn sawn timber products is being experienced by all customers.
The trend is primarily as a result of changes in the forest resource during the last 10 years, which includes.
66% of high quality North Coast native forest available for harvesting has been placed in permanent reservation.
Environmental restrictions being applied on the remaining forest include no old growth harvesting and no stream side harvesting.
Environmental restrictions that impact on the intensity of harvesting, include, no clear-falling and retention of habitat trees.
Increase in hardwood plantation harvesting.
The native forest currently available for harvesting is generally shorter, smaller in diameter and height than that available in the past.
With these changes this often results in shorter log lengths being cut in order to maximise the higher grades to meet Forests NSW commitments under long term Wood Supply Agreements
These shorter lengths will occur in all grades of sawing as we maximise each grade from trees harvested.
ECOLOGICALLY SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT ENSURES THAT THE FOREST STRUCTURE AND HABITATS ARE MAINTAINED.
