ALL THE RAIN OVER THE LAST 12 MONTHS HAS FILLED THE SYDNEY WATER TABLE AND THIS IS CAUSING WATER TO BE PRESENT ON MANY SITES
IN THIS NEWSLETTER I WILL HIGHLIGHT AREAS THAT SHOULD BE CHECKED ON SITE AND AT THE JULY SESSION THE CHECKLIST WILL BE DISCUSSED MORE THOROUGHLY

Our guided tour, will explain how we have used new and recycled timber and flooring in many exciting ways internally and externally, which will give you a much better understanding of how to use timber internally and externally. David will take your through the colour range of the timber simply so that you understand any variation that occurs with each species. Also he will discuss many finishes for internal and external timbers, which help you understand the different properties used in the finish which can minimise the UV light effect on the timber.
The timber which will be discussed includes solid flooring, 14mm overlay flooring, pre finished Australian engineered flooring, and pre finished American White Oak Stained flooring, block parquetry, roasted hardwood floor, & Plantation flooring. Recycled Flooring, beams, windows, doors and furniture milled from power poles. Timber cladding and lining board profiles. External timber Green Off Saw Dressed All Round and Rough Sawn beams. Decking, battens for privacy screens.

Why do we need to allow expansion gaps when using ply and particle board?
Ply and particle board are natural timber products and they absorb moisture which causes it to expand.
OOPS!
Wet yellow tongue can cause flooring to suck up the moisture which may can cause the flooring to cup.
NASH TIMBERS RECOMMENDS THAT ALL SITES SHOULD HAVE A THOROUGH CHECKLIST
ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED WHEN MOISTURE IS PRESENT
Crawl Space to Sub Floor:
Distance from soil to sub floor, condensation, musty smell, water present (wet soil)? pipes or underwater streams, mould, algae, vents open, cross ventilation.
Sub Floor:
Damp slab (test with a sheet of glass taped all round onto slab and if condensation present within 24 hours) joist (rusty nail), black pores of mould present, sub floor cupped, musty smell, colour varitaion moisture may have been present.
Aspects:
Waterfront, Sandstone shelf, under water stream, site location (bottom of a hill), building below grade.
Environmental:
Rain, Sun, wind
Internal:
Reverse cycle air conditioning, heater, dish washer, dryers,bathroom set downs
Building issues to be completed before installing flooring:
All water to be drained away from sub floor, lock up stage to be completed 2 weeks before, all wet trades to be completed, mechanical ventilation installed if required
